Present Yourself As Pro Talent Even If You’re Just Starting Your Acting Career

Present Yourself As Pro Talent Even If You’re Just Starting Your Acting Career
You want to go pro, walk down the red carpet and win that Oscar. I don’t blame you, who doesn’t? But all that wanting will be for nothing if you don’t know how to get from here to there. If you want red carpet success, you need to learn how to be known, get your name out there and develop a solid reputation. And the most important trait you need to focus on beyond talent? That’s professionalism.

Don’t pass up the chance to propel your career. Use these easy marketing and networking tips to help turn hobby acting into the career of your dreams.

For starters, get alone with a journal and answer the following honestly: Know who you are; your strength and persona.  People need to know, for the most part, who they are going to get. Focus on your strengths and see that they are communicated on your page.  Are you bold and confident? Are you kind and determined? Ask yourself what that means to you.

Why? Because, where you’re going to go next is to build a website. Even if it’s just one single page, you want to have a place online, beside Facebook and Instagram, where people can find you professionally. But be sure to buy your own domain name. Nobody takes an “ xyz.wordpress.com ” site very seriously. It says you don’t take your future seriously. Try to get your own name if possible. If not, get something along the lines of yournameacting or yournameinfilm dot com. This is not only professional, but allows you to build off of it in the future if you choose to do so. Use it and think of this as your bio with a headshot online. This is a place where people can go to see your headshots, what you’ve done  and the projects you are working on.

Keep it simple.  Your site only has to be a single page, if that’s what you want and it gets the job done. Also, keep your photos classy and with high resolution.  People want to feel that they are working with a professional. For the body, simply tell a short bio highlighting your skills and passions.  People are interested in your story, but more interested in what you can do. This is a good place to put another, different head shot.   If you create videos or audio samples, feel free to include these on the page as well, if there is room.

Lastly, don’t just leave it there. If you don’t already, make sure to be active on the social media platform that fits you best - be that Facebook, Instagram or YouTube. You’re an entertainer, so entertain. It’s important to have a certain social media accounts to connect with people and show them what you’re up to.  Feature pictures of you on set. Show glimpses of the fun you’re apart of, being in line at an audition, or getting makeup done. Announce bookings and callbacks. Get people excited about your work and adventure. As they see your progress, that circle of people will expand and more and more people will be aware of your skill.
