2 Steps to Less Stage Fright and a Better Acting Career

2 Steps to Less Stage Fright and a Better Acting Career Having to deal with stage fright can make or break your career. If you have any fear on stage, it can cause you to throw in the towel. But we don't want that. If you have a passion for acting, we at the New York Acting School for Film and Television want to equip you well, to succeed.

Step One
Keep getting on stage. Don't let the fear stop you. Keep getting behind the camera.

Step Two
It's time to deal with the fear of rejection you are holding on to deep inside.  But don't be embarrassed or frustrated about it.  We all carry that weakness around with us in some way or another and in fact, some very successful actors have a strong fear of rejection. It's what they do with it that matters most.  It's a large force of energy that's ready to be poured into your success in a positive way. Where will you direct it?

What challenge can you make for yourself the next time you are on stage?  Sometimes it's as simple as focusing on your breath.  Decide for yourself that you are going to think of your normal tasks but mainly focus on your breath.  Make sure its where it needs to be.  Even if you are doing an intense scene, just focusing on your breathe will need to be deep and full or rapid and full of fire, but either way - the breath will be present and you can choose to focus on it.

Another option you can try, is to set time aside to visualize the performance. Close your eyes and connect with an experience where you were overwhelmed with a sense of accomplishment and allow that to overcome you as you emotionally re-live the experience. Scientists have researched that the mind, vividly imagining things experiences it as a reality.

Visualization techniques are being used more and more often in many careers and coaching methods with great success.

Don't be discouraged and please contact us at the New York Acting School for Film and Television with any questions you might have about classes or coaching!
